Mascoma

Creo que es momento de empezar a hablar más de energía alternativa, uno de los temas más sujetos a crecimiento de inversión en EUA. Como dato cultural, el departamento de energía de EUA le pidió a 3 firmas de capital de riesgo que echen a andar un programa piloto para crear compañías a partir de las tecnologías de este departamento. Participaron Kleiner Perkins, ARCH Venture partners y Foundation Capital. La nota está abajo.

Mascoma Corp., a Cambridge, Mass.-based provider of cellulosic biomass-to-ethanol development and production, has raised $50 million in Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing. It includes $30 million in equity, and $20 million in debt. General Catalyst Partners was joined by return backers Khosla Ventures, Atlas Venture, Flagship Ventures, Kleiner Perkins, Pinnacle Ventures and VantagePoint Venture Partners. The U.S. Department of Energy has chosen three venture capital firms to participate in the Department's new entrepreneur-in-residence pilot program, which aims to accelerate deployment and commercialization of advanced clean energy technologies from three DOE National Laboratories into the global marketplace.
